Fully Mentored photobook Course January 2025

Thank you for signing up for this four-week fully mentored photobook workshop/course with me. My primary aim during this course is to help you create a great photobook and deepen your understanding of the fascinating world of photobooks. Many photographers are already involved in this creative space, and more are joining us all the time.

What excites me most about photobooks is their lasting impact. When you create a photobook, you are producing something for the future — whether it remains within your family or reaches a wider audience. I call this concept ‘future heritage’ — preserving your photography for generations to come.

I understand many of you might be eager to dive into designing with Affinity Publisher. However, I encourage you to work through the lessons in Week 1 thoughtfully. This week focuses on understanding yourself as a photobook creator and developing your concept. If this course were about housebuilding, Week 1 would be about laying solid foundations — an essential step for success.

Course Milestones:

  • End of Week 1: This is an important week. By the end of the week you should have:
    1) a clear idea of what a great photobook looks like
    2) a clear idea of what your concept is, and what experience your photobook delivers
    3) a computer folder with your images, text, and other elements, ready to move into Week 2.
  • End of Week 2: You should have a PDF (or a set of PDFs) of your photobook ready to send to a printer.
  • Week 3: This week will focus on refining your photobook.
  • Week 4: This final week involves sending your photobook to the printer and plan what you are going to do with it

Throughout the four weeks, I am on call to help you think through technical issues or discuss how to make your photobook greater and more appropriate for what you hope to use it for.

There is also Basecamp, which is the ideal place to make contact with either myself or everyone on the course. Basecamp helps keep everything together rather than searching for emails, and it also connects everyone on the course. Hopefully, everyone will help each other. You could see the others on the course as an audience for your ideas and photobook.

Let’s enjoy this exciting journey together!
