Hi Denise,
I find that, compared with preparing a file for photographic printing — for example, using a print lab or your own desktop printer — it can help to make the images a little brighter, with slightly increased vibrancy and saturation, when preparing a PDF for photobook printing. This is because the final file is converted to CMYK for printing.
There isn’t a 100% formula for this, as there are other factors involved, including your own monitor and how it is calibrated. After having a couple of test zines printed, you will start to get a feel for how much you personally need to increase the brightness, vibrancy and saturation to achieve the result you want.
The template I supplied is A5. In the US, I believe you have a common standard size of 5.5 × 8.5 inches, which is quite close to A5.
At this stage of the course, though, please don’t worry too much about sizes. In Module 2 we start from scratch and look at setting up the document properly. This first module is really about getting used to the workflow in Affinity and becoming comfortable with how everything fits together.
Kind regards,
Stewart
