Park Hill — A Sunday Morning Drift with Viveca and Fred

FutureHeritage Field Report No. 001

Three photographers. One location. Three different ways of seeing.

On Sunday 26 April 2026, I was joined by fellow Royal Photographic Society Fellows Viveca Koh FRPS and Fred Barrington FRPS for a two-hour photographic drift through Sheffield’s iconic Park Hill estate.

Park Hill is one of Britain’s most significant examples of post-war housing architecture. Famous for its Streets in the Sky, it offers a fascinating environment in which to explore the relationship between architecture, people, history and the changing urban landscape.

Rather than following a predetermined photographic brief, we allowed our curiosity to guide us, responding individually to the environment and the unexpected photographic opportunities we encountered.

What particularly interests me about this approach is how three photographers can explore the same place, at the same time, yet discover very different photographs.

Our individual experiences, interests and ways of seeing influence what attracts our attention, how we respond and ultimately what we choose to photograph.

This is at the heart of my approach to Photo-Psychogeography® — engaging with a place through curiosity, observation and creative discovery.

The resulting FutureHeritage Field Report brings together our photographic responses to Park Hill, offering three personal interpretations of a shared experience.

It is both a photographic exploration of an extraordinary place and an invitation to consider how our own visual signatures shape the photographs we make.
