Description
Photography Projects, Zines and Photobooks Workshop
with professional photographer Stewart Wall
October 8th 2025 10am – 4pm

Oxford Photographic Society members and their guests are warmly invited to join professional press photographer and educator Stewart WallĀ for a one-day street photography and project-building workshop in Oxford.
The Workshop
As high streets across the UK continue to change ā shaped by online shopping, economic shifts, and social trends ā this workshop offers a creative opportunity to develop photographic projects around the concept of ‘The High Streets of Oxford’ in 2025 as a cohesive project forĀ a future heritage photo-zine.
Youāll be guided through a practical day of creating photographic projects in the city centre, responding to the question:
What does Oxfordās high street say about our time ā and what might it mean to someone looking back in 50 years?
The Theme for the Day
Our Project theme for the day is ‘A Time of Change: Everyday Stories of the High Streets. Oxfordās high street is a place of constant evolution ā where the rhythms of daily life meet the forces of economic and social change. This workshop invites you to capture the authentic moments, faces, and places that tell the story of a community in transition. From bustling shops to quiet corners, from familiar faces to fleeting encounters, your photographs will explore how ordinary lives unfold amid extraordinary change.
Throughout the day we will experiment with creating photographic projects using different approaches eg documentary, visual/fine art, landscape so that attendees can gain a feel for what they prefer.
What You Will Learn
Youāll explore four different photographic approaches to the same streets:
š§āāļø Documentary Mode
Capture real moments and signs of social change with clarity and honesty.
šØ Fine-Art Mode
Explore mood, metaphor, and creative vision in urban space.
š³ Urban Landscape Mode
Use space, light, and composition to reflect wider cultural shifts.
šļø Photo-Poet: Combining imagery with the concise poetry of photo-haiku to evoke mood and meaning in minimal form.
Each approach includes practical guidance, feedback, and an assignment to help build a meaningful body of work.
Workshop Location
Where the Workshop will take place: Central Oxford
Even if you have been to the area before working with Stewart, who has been a professional photographer since 1978 will give you new ideas and create new skills helping you create and enjoy photography more.
The Streets of Oxford Photo-Zine: After the workshop all attendees will be invited to submit their favourite roject for a Photo-Zine of the day, which Stewart will design and have printed. Copies will be available to all attendees at a discounted price of between £5 and £10 depending on the page count. The book continues the learning, because you will see the work of all the attendees, which in turn may give you new ideas about how to produce your own work.
Workshop Bonus

Photograph above shows attendees from the October 2023 Bath Workshop using the āMaster Guide to Creating Project Photographyā that is supplied to all workshop attendees so they can create their own record of the day
In a ddition to spending the day working with, and being guided by Stewart, attendees of the workshop will receive a complimentary copy ofĀ Stewartās āMaster Guide to Creating Project Photographyā Zine.
